Mini Accordion

Remember I went to my first scrapbooking workshop last Friday?
Well this is one of the products we created!!
A mini accordion book! The name is given to it bcus it opens up just like an accordion.
I spent a lot of time and effort on it so I really hope no one will plagiarize it a hundred percent..
Anyway, this is to share with y'all (:

Had reunion dinner w my mum's side on Saturday(21st) already,
so on Sunday we ate at my dad's.

Headed to this restaurant just as every year and had our 10-course lunch there,
before meeting the rest of our relatives at my grandma's place.

When we got there, we realized it was closed!! T^T
Wanted to try their duck pizza so badly!

We walked to Boat Quay for our dinner and then to Yello Jello.

First of all, happy birthday to Kelroy and Chloe!

Went over to G's in the late afternoon
and we played with his new toy: a tripod!!
Took some pics but they're still w G.
Had dinner w his family at Sakae Sushi.
Quite a simple day.

Today I was awaken by several texts by K, asking me out for lunch.
So we did! I was so groggy, and the sun made me very grumpy ):

The rest of my day was reading some school notes, watching video, and eating!
I signed up a beginner scrapbook session at Made With Love!
I 'd enjoyed making cards and what-nots few years back, but I guess I got busy.
I don't actually know how to scrapbook (seems like a hassle),
and I'm so excited for tomorrow's session! :D
I'm even planning to continue taking up some intermediate ones hahaa.

Woohoo!! After 3 hours of lecture in the afternoon, we're free for 9 days! :D

Met B at JP for our movie, but he was such a slowpoke and I was starving! So I had my late lunch by myself.

We caught The Great Magician and it was really interesting ;)

Had Awfully Chocolate before going his house. Watched TV and soaked our feet together ^^

Returned home to make rice wine and all sorts of CNY stuff. Super tired and I'm heading to bed now.

I went over to K's and when I reached, her bedroom looked like it was hit by a hurricane! O.o

She gave me my present from her HK trip, picked out specially for me by Kaiwen. An Eiffel necklace! Hahhaha getting me a gift seems to be an easy task eh? Lol! In any case, I love it! (:

We headed over to AMK Hub & had our very late brunch. Our last stop was at TechPlace, which was so secluded!

Guess what? It was K's debut blog shop shoot!!! I shall not mention which blogshop for now, but I'll definitely broadcast it once the collection's launched!

I was so excited as I watched the very friendly MUA(makeup artist) Zeus work his magic on her! Zomg incredible.

She was so shy in front of the camera & trust me when I say, it's so refreshing to see her shy!! Lol! After a few shots she got the hang of it ;)

We had dinner(Mac Delivery) after it ended. Her whole shoot lasted 3 hrs! But it was a lot of fun (for me, can't say the same for her lol)!

Hello HongKong!

Vi & I took on a vacation to HK from the 6th to 10th Dec.
Not going through all the details (else it'll be like 10pages long), just a brief update (:

6th December 2011 [Day 1]

Our flight was at 1.15am so we had to be at the airport by 11pm on the 5th.
BabyG went to send us off ^^

Our first meal of the day, which wasn't very good.
Couldn't check in until 10am!

Took a quick shower, changed (we didn't find it really cold), and off for some shopping!!

Ahhhhh~ Comfy much!I was whining non-stop that my feet hurts hahahahha!

Macau! Hahah it was really an impromptu decision.We couldn't sleep the previous night, tossed in bed thinking of what we should do.

At Causeway Bay

We ordered 10 dishes for 400HKD.
Roughly SGD 34 each.

There was this Barbie thing outside Time Square.

After which........

I don't know if I should call it Heaven or Hell :\
We bought SO much, it was a torture carrying everything back to the hotel.
And we had to lug it back before going Ladies' Market LOL. All hands are full (and in pain).

Bought two new boots! Yes the grey one is the one Vi has!
Hahah.

Changed and brought Duffy out to Ladies' Market! :P

10th December 2011 [Day 5]

Back to SG!

I still find it amazing for us to bring 2 luggages back, each.
It was love at first sight for both of us and we just had to get it hahaha!

So sad to stuff her (It's a him but I like it to be a girl) in the luggage!

I missed this little guy too! Wonder if he missed me hmmm.

On the 11th day of November 2011, I'd like to make a confession. Mainly to myself. I need to face my emotions and stop faking those smiles.

Gona be quite an emo post so if it isn't your cup of tea you should exit now.

Fact is, I never got over it.

It was my favorite day, but now it's become a constant nightmare.

I wish I could turn back the hands of time; I'd be a little selfish towards myself.
So that I won't have to feel miserable, just for my favorite day.
It pains me to see everyone celebrating this special occasion.
I'm happy for them but it kills me inside.

I need to get over this. I struggled within.
How? It's not ok..

Finally, I asked God the question we should never ask.

Why me?

I never asked for anything from anyone (except my dad).
But is it too much to ask for, to be happy that day?

You can throw me obstacles and hard times any other day, I accept.
But why on that particular day..
Sigh.

What's worse is, so what if I point fingers at the whole world? So what if they admit and apologize? Nothing can be done to bring back what's gone..

So if you are reading this, I don't blame you. I just can't face this.

This whole thing is changing me..
Pretending all's fine. I fear the day i fail to distinguish when I'm real and when I'm not.
Hatred and vengeance sinking in deep.
Sorrows and unfairness..

How do I let these all go?..

I've stopped blogging for awhile, now I don't know where to start.. Haha!
I remember wishing for exams to end cus it's draining all our brain juices (not to mention, social life!).
Once it was over, sadly, I didn't feel any sense of freedom. I just felt ... mentally exhausted. Lol!

On the 4th of November G invited me out w his camp mates.
So... Gerald (G) has a good friend in camp, Jerarld (J).
And I got to know J's gf Nana (Short for Fiona).

Nana suits her more. Fiona sounds too demure. Hahhahaa

Celebrated YS' bday on the 7th since we were all free on that day.
I met up w G earlier in the afternoon first.
Bought a furry jacket, beanie and gloves for my HongKong trip! Weee!~~~

Finally brought him to the jap stall in Taka where Vi brought me to!

And we had this for dessert, haha! Yums!

The place where we got the tart in replacement of bday cake.
Esther got it once for me and I loved it!

Met YS in MSquare where we caught Tower Heist.
Took the helix bridge over to MBS. Why am I always at MBS *Sigh* lol..

Sunset was so amazing that evening.

I asked the staff to recommend me something sweet.

Made him this book with our photos in it.
Lied that I'm not spending his bday with him, had YS delay him while I rush to Bugis' NYDC to get a cheesecake and joined them for dinner at WestMall's Sakae.
Brought him home and secretly placed the book in his shelf, which he took quite awhile to notice lol!!
YS surprised him further with the Ferrari model.

This was such a complicated day but it turned out to be better than I'd expected!
The initial plan was to meet the girls(Jess Mandy Chloe Krislynn) for brunch and have dinner with Reeie and Cyarmaine.

Brunch kinda failed and Reeie told me she wasn't feeling well so I asked her to rest at home.
I went ahead to shop with my family in town.
At 3pm I met Vi at FEP to trim my fringe, it's been bugging me for the longest time!
Joined my family again after.
Then Reeie came all the way down to town just to keep her promise to meet me, how not to feel touched! ❤❤❤
We went Scape to look for WendyAshley then did some window shopping.
Had no ideas as to where to go already and our feet were aching!
So we went to a pub at Princep Street to chill.

They finished 5 bottles by themselves; I don't drink beer. O.O

She got me Royce! Hadn't tried this flavor though, it's Champagne (:

As we were finishing up our drinks at around 11.45pm, Vi asked me out for movies w Ben and Louis! Hahaha. They came and pick me up and we headed for Cine.Had supper at Shokudo since our show's at 2.30am.Caught CARS! Such an adorable movie!! :D

Wanted to have Marché but the queue was SUPER long so we had Trattoria instead.

She 'invited' me for Kbox w them and I had to sing cus Mr Beh keep saying I never give him face LOL!
It was fun, and crazy as usual. After which, we caught Bad Teacher at 1.30am hahahaha!How long has it been since I stayed out this late!
It has always been work, home, eat, sleep.I feel like a my age now :DWhen I got home I had a long conversation with G til ... 5.30am then we zonked out x.x

As we all know, Hari Raya is round the corner!
My Malay colleagues wanted to head down to Geylang Serai, and Esther showed interest cus she's never been there.
Me neither! So I decided to tag along & join in the fun! Hahaha busybody in actual fact :X
My class ended in the evening, I met Zac first and we joined Esther & Haszreena at Raffles Place.

We went City Plaza to queue for Arnold's first, the wait was about 1.5hrs!
Did some shopping and Zohra joined us.

So we decided to show our support.

I'm very amazed cus it's all drawn free-hand and it started from a simple circle in the middle of her palm! O.O!!

Next was Esther! She picked a dolphin on her arm.
And when it came to my turn, they all went to smoke, leaving me alone.
Wahhhh damn sad! Luckily I have Zac as my photographer lol!

Felt like it was just yesterday when we got back together. 2 years have passed at the blink of an eye!
We decided to have a simple celebration.
Was supposed to meet at his place (cus I had a gift for him & I didn't want him to carry it around), but he gave me a surprise at my doorstep just as I was about to leave my house!

Met up with my babe Vi for dinner!
Jocelyn recommended this Korean BBQ restaurant to us and we had such a wonderful meal!
We were noobs at first, we even asked the staff if we needed to spread butter on the aluminium foil LOL! Cus the meat kept on sticking to it! There's no butter. We improvised and used the oil secreted from bacon to ensure that the other meat don't stick! Smart? Hahaha.

This was only Round 1!!
We had 2 or 3 rounds and we were bloated to the max!

The very nice Korean boss who taught us how to eat the korean way..
He's very funny! I dropped my phone, Vi and I looked at each other in shock for about 5 secs and he went like "Ok, ok, ok..." and picked it up for me. Hahaha can't stop laughing at that scene!

Headed back to her place to ~~camwhore~~ chill. Ended up staying over heehee!
When we were up we didn't chat about in-depth topics. After we said gdnight we kept talking ._.
We said gdnight for so many times lol!

With Love

Last night G met me at MBS after I ended work! We made our way to Esplanade by foot because the road was blocked due to NDP rehearsal.

Decided to have Kenny Rogers for dinner at Marina Square, was my first time there!

I only ate the four corners; they're really crispy! :P

His. The portion looks very little but there're actually 2 chicken!
Furthermore he still had to finish mine for me lol!
Macaroni cheese + Potato salad as sides.

Yea Kenny Rogers has the best chicken. But for ribs, Tony Roma wins hands down! Hahaha..

After which we headed to Esplanade and there was a live performance at the Waterfront, acoustic singing. We just got drawn to it; their voices were really enchanting.. Finally we pulled ourselves out of the crowd and found a quiet spot near the river for our heart-to-heart.. (:

I feel the urge to note down this amazing day I had.

Went for my first casting in the morning, it wasnt as scary as I thought it'd be! Met up w Vi for short while after that ^^

Managed to surprise Esther with Coke Light at her workplace （＾∇＾）

Told Zac to help me pack lunch(I paid him back of course) and he got me GongCha as well! So nice of him!

As the night was ending I was getting lethargic.. Then Esther appeared in the store. I almost screamed! Hahaha. She bought us supper! Strawberry tart for me!

Last but not least, G stayed up til I ended work just to hear my voice cus he missed me. Aww ❤

Met Steffi up on the 7th of June!
As you can see, I'm out of ideas for blog titles *Sigh*

We had our lunch and were on our way to get Koi when we got delayed close to 1.5 hours by this agent from Prudential, omg!
I'd be brutal and reject these people from now onwards. Tsk!!

So after getting Koi, Steff (not a typo, I like calling her Steff) brought me to Haji Lane.
It was my first time there! *noob*
All the shops look so nice, cosy and interesting!
Hope to see The Summer Chic there someday... Hahah!

We had lunch at Sushi Tei, a very fast one cus we were running late for our movie Kungfu Panda!
Needless to say, it was great! I'm a fan of cartoons hahaa.

We've just started hanging out recently! I know, shame on me.
I used to think pans are scary because of the splatters which I encountered from other pans.
My pan, surprisingly, does not splatter! It might be due to the fact that I apply low heat hahaha!
Anyway, it's the 24cm from Meyer's. Non-stick, I like!

Our first 'date' was on 3rd June, when I didn't feel like eating take-aways.
Used really simple ingredients like ...

Garlic, of course.

Luncheon meat.

And cherry tomatoes. Added an egg too!

The end result was not bad, tasted really sweet because of the tomatoes!

Was kind enough to fry an extra egg for my little brother.

On the 6th of June I got a little more adventurous and decided to finally try out the minced meat omelet which my Dad taught me(Only about a thousand times!).. Haha.

This was sooo yummy! I fried a lot!
By the time I finish frying my veges(below), there were only 6 omelets left (._ . ;

Just dump garlic and veges in, lol!

On the 29th of May I met my boys and we headed to the other side of SG for food!
Headed to B's earlier to meet him.

Wore my maxi dress out! (:

Waffles Factory, recommended by YS.

My fav boys.

We shared 9 waffles.
Cheese Sausage. Cheddar Cheese. Oreo. Hazelnut Chocolate. Nutella. Chilli Shrimp. Cococrunch. Mayonnaise Egg. Durian(Only Shan & I).
We were about 30-40% full after that.

Continued with authentic Katong Laksa!
I had $4, G had $5, and YS $6. Hahaha.
The journey there was unbearable; it was so warm!!
Shan went home to rest after that cus he just finished this Sundown Marathon the night before. Hahaha.
I went back to B's. He went to run some errands while I took a cold shower.
Soon he had to book in ):

Almond on 30th May after I came home from work:

He always shivered cus my aircon's fixed,
and even though it's set at 26degC it's still very cold.
So I wrapped him up, haha!

I ordered a pair of customized contact lenses which will fit the contours of my eyeball, but it's gona be transparent. So no more iris-enlarging effect for me ):
This is how I'll look like next time, 2 more weeks till it arrives?
Gotta get used to this!

Took a week's off from work starting from the 19th to 26th(yesterday).
Here's a summary of what I did.

19th: Haircut w Steffi.
20th: Took Almond to the vet.
21st: Date with G.
22nd: Sakura buffet lunch with Dad n relatives.
23rd: SIM for forms submission.
24th: Training at Delta House.
25th: Home!

26th Thursday.
Last day of my breakkk!
Met Esther for lunch since she was working at Tangs.

A lot has been going on in my life, many factors affecting my mood..I'm glad that things are not as rough now, and I'm holding on fine.
Looking forward to the day when things finally work themselves out.
I've done what I can; the rest will just roll into place.

Went down to SIM today to submit the forms and made the first payment.
Almost got lost; couldn't find the Student Helpdesk which was hidden in a corner!
Thankfully I met two kind girls who showed me the way (:
Bought Koi before heading back home, large cup for me! ^^

While watching America's Next Top Model, I decided to munch on the chocolates that 表姐 gave me.

Short post before I head to bed.
Finally met my babyboy today ^^

Initially planned to visit East Coast Park to cycle, but the weather wasn't too cooperative. We didn't want to take the risk so we had a change of plans!
Simpler, but still good (:

G's mother gave us a pair of complimentary movie tickets from Cathay. We went Cine at first but the seats were all taken up. Settled for Paul at The Cathay.

Since there was time, we had our dinner first. If you followed my tweets or view my fb feeds you'd have known what we had. It's not hard to guess though, haha! Pastamania as usual! This time round I tried something different.

Their new Beef Pastrami.
Beef slices, sprinkle of onions and cut tomatoes, covered in oyster cream sauce(don't really know what's that but it's very tasty!).
The flavors blend perfectly!
It's now my new favorite, taking over the famous Marinara ;)

Had a walk around Scape. I love the rings! So sad my fingers are too tiny to fit into any, not even the adjustable ones ):

Moved on to our movie Paul, an alienated comedy. It's humorous, interesting, and very creative. It's worth watching (:

Haven't seen my babygirl for the longest time due to her exams.
The last time was during Janurary O.O!
We met up for our haircut at Twister@Tampines! We only trust Kason with our hair ;)

Discussed some school and work issues with him, and it seems timing is very vital in every step that I take. Stressing me out. I'm sure things will be alright, God will have a plan for me.

Received another 21st bday gift in advance!
So now I have 3 presents even before my bday, lol!

I was really excited to be part of AFF(Audi Fashion Festival) 2011 as a dresser, and I thank Swarovski for this opportunity.

It was held on 14th May, last Saturday.
We attended the full-dress rehearsal in the morning and got to know the procedures and what we were supposed to do. We were split into two teams, Swarovski(SW) and Prabal Gurung(PG). I was assigned to SW, to help dress the finale model Charmaine, but the only thing she's wearing is a ring. So I helped PG team as well.

PG collection all laid out and sorted to each model.
This collection is part of Atelier Swarovski, only available in MBS boutique.
I have a pair of his earrings!

Celebrated this occasion on the 7th with my family and G's!

Initial plan was to go ECP with Gerald but we realized we didn't have enough time bcus our movie starts at 3.40pm - in JP. Lol!
We reached Payar Lebar at around 1pm if I'm not wrong.
Decided to hunt for good food (what gluttons)! ;)

My favourite icecream! :D

Really enjoyed myself just by walking next to him and leaving trails of laughter behind us.
It made my burdens all disappear and it had this sense of nostalgia, happening in the present.
I can't describe with words but I will always remember that feeling.
We teased each other, fought a little, he even pushed me into a puddle! Lol!
We also saw people fishing by the drain..
How I wish time could have stopped right there.

We were 10 minutes late for our movie Fast & Furious 5 because I wanted to check City Plaza out :X Oops! Lucky we didn't miss much! It was amazing! I got confused with the 'Pacifier guy' and 'The Rock'. I thought they were the same person omg! That was dumb ._."

I had an unfamiliar urge to clean up my house.
So after packing up my wardrobe and throwing a lot of unwanted clothes, I vacuumed the house.
What did I tell you about miracles happening this month, hmm?

After I was done (if you're following my tweets you should know what happened between haha!), Mum, 2nd bro and I headed to Suntec.

Also, we all agreed their baked beans wasn't yummy.
Their special sauce used doesn't satisfy our taste buds.

She's an ex-Swarovski staff but now she's like my personal beauty consultant.
I'm so lucky to have her!
My skin condition improved tremendously all thanks to her.

Really tired cus I had a last min customer who walked in at 12mn and we served her for 45mins! We had a quick dinner at mac and rushed for our movie Limitless.

11th April 2011 Monday
This is THE day! I never thought it would happen but B brought me to USS!
I always feared going to themed parks with him cus I'm afraid he'll drag me to loop-de-loops (or looped rollercoasters as you call it) and I'm afraid he'll be too bored taking more docile rides with me. No doubt I'm a worrier. Lol! All that didn't happen, we had a blast!

We reached Vivo at 10+ and had Max Brenner's hot chocolate before entering USS.
Love my Choco Pops! B's impressed w their hot chocolate as well so I can assume more Max Brenner's on the way... Yay!

I finished work at 6.15pm and went Tangs to look for my darling Esther!
It's been nearly a month since she got transferred there! Can't wait for her to be back in MBS w me! Few more days, endure!

We parted at 8pm and I went to meet Vi for dinner at Cine's Shokudo.

That experience was an awful one; we had bugs crawling on the ratten basket where our Prawn Fritters were. We cancelled that dish. Yucks. Chatted for abit outside Taka and headed back at 10.30pm (:

The Eiffel Tower

You can skip this if it bores you!

So I thought: If I love the Eiffel Tower so much, I should understand it thoroughly. Came across some interesting facts as well, lol!

History

1889 marked the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution.

French officials had already started planning for the Great Exposition of 1889 way back in 1885. The idea was to create a monument with gloriousness comparable to France itself.

At that time, the Washington Monument, standing at 557 feet high, was the tallest building on Earth. The French was determined to achieve a greater result with a 1000-foot-tall tower in the heart of Paris. They embarked on a mission to seek a designer-cum-engineer for this large-scale project.

Design Contest

The French Government announced this design contest on 2nd May 1886.

French engineers and architects gathered to "study the possibility of erecting on the Champ de Mars an iron tower with a base of 125 meters square and 300 meters high".

As quoted, there were only two criteria to the contest: 1) the structure had to be self-financing - it had to attract enough ticket (buying visitors to the exposition to pay for its own construction); and 2) it had to be a temporary structure that could be torn down easily at the end of the Exposition.

May 18 was the deadline, and more than 100 submissions were collated. All sorts of proposals were available, but none of them stood a chance - when the contest was announced, the result was pretty much decided.

The 53-year-old structural engineer was already appointed as France's "master builder in metal".

Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel

December 15, 1832 – December 27, 1923

French structural engineer, architect, entrepreneur and specialist of metallic structures.

Significant projects: Eiffel Tower, Structure for Statue of Liberty.

He had presented plans for a wrought iron tower which was ready to be built to French Minister Edouard Lockroy weeks earlier. 5,329 mechanical drawings corresponding to the 18,038 different components that would be used had already been authorized by Eiffel. Lockroy was blown away by his design, he manipulated the contest so that Eiffel would win.

Joint Venture

Eiffel signed a contract with the French government and the City of Paris in Janurary 1887.

His engineering firm, Eiffel & Company, cohered to provide 1.3 million of the estimated 1.6 million construction cost of the tower.

Having agreed that, Eiffel would acquire all profits gained from the tower during the Exposition, and for 20 years afterward. Thereon, the City of Paris will reclaim full ownership of the tower; they could even choose to demolish it.

Money Machine

As quoted:

"Unlike other public monuments, the Eiffel Tower was designed to make money from the very beginning. If you wanted to take the elevator or the stairs to the first story, you had to pay 2 francs; going all the way to the top cost 5 francs (Sundays were cheaper). That was just the beginning; restaurants, cafes, and shops were planned for the first story; a post office, telegraph office, bakery, and printing press were planned for the second story. In all, the tower was designed to accommodate up to 10,416 paying customers at a time."

Ground Breaking

The Washington Monument, merely over half the size of Eiffel Tower, took 36 years to complete(wow!). With barely 2 years to the opening of Exposition, Eiffel had to build the tower quicker than any similar structure had been built before. Construction started on 26th January.

Parisian Party Poopers

The tower received a lot of negative comments. They think that "a 1,000-foot tower would dwarf the Parisian skyline and overpower the city’s other landmarks, including Notre Dame, the Louvre, and Arc de Triomphe". More than 300 signed a petition against it, claiming that Eiffel’s “hallow candlestick” would “disfigure and dishonor” the city. Eiffel ignored the petitions and continued on his work.

I stared at this in awe.. It's so surreal!

Other Fears

Critics did not stop just yet.

A French mathematics professor predicted that the structure would collapse once it passed the 748-foot mark; another "expert" claimed that the tower’s lightening rods would kill all the fish in Seine(a river).

Herald, Paris edition of the New York, said the tower was changing the weather; and daily newspaper Le Matin ran a headline story "The Tower is Sinking". He addressed that "If it has really begun to sink, any further building should stop and sections already built should be demolished as quickly as possible."

The tower developed unabated, and fear was replaced by amazement.

Engineering Genius

As quoted:

"To accomplish his task, Eiffel devised some incredibly ingenious techniques:

• Unlike other massive engineering projects of the day, he had nearly all of the parts used in the tower prefabricated off-site in his workshops. This meant that when they arrived at the tower, the parts could quickly be riveted into place with a minimum of fuss.

• The rivet holes themselves were pre-drilled to a tolerance of one-tenth of one millimeter, making it possible for the twenty riveting teams to drive an average of 1,650 rivets a day.

• None of the girders used in the tower was permitted to weigh more than three tons. This made it possible to use smaller cranes to lift everything into place. As Joseph Harris writes in The Tallest Tower:

"Eiffel had learned that using small components was faster and safer, even if his method did require more riveting, for cranes could be smaller and more mobile. The chances of accidents were reduced, and if one did occur the consequences were less serious. Use of bigger girders would have slowed the entire operation and required more expensive and complicated construction methods.

Thanks to these and other safety measures, the Eiffel Tower – the world’s tallest construction site – was also one of the safest. Of the hundreds of people who worked on the tower, only one, a riveter’s assistant named Dussardin, fell to his death."

The Piers

When the project started, there were four construction sites at the tower, one for each foot, known as the "pier". These piers would only meet at the 180-foot level and when reached, they had to be perfectly level with one another for a perfectly horizontal platform, for the remaining 800 feet of the tower to be built. If the piers were to be out of alignment, the tiniest discrepancy would be magnified at the top - it would appear to lean.

It was impossible for Eiffel to guarantee the outcome. Thus he installed temporary hydraulic pistons at the base of each feet so that as work progressed, he could ensure perfect alignment of the tower by slightly raising or lowering each foot. Afterwhich, iron wedges could be driven into the piers to secure them permanently.

Eiffel's worries were uncalled for; at the 180-foot level, the worst of the four massive piers was less than 2 ½ inches out of alignment. They were adjusted and secured in place. Even today, the tower is perfectly vertical.

End Product

The Eiffel Tower was a wonder, for its ingenuity of design, as well as being completed ahead of schedule and under budget. It was ready by March 31 when the Exposition was scheduled to open on May 6. Eiffel & Company earned back its capital in record time. During the six months of Exposition alone, the tower recouped more than $1.4 million of its $1.6 million construction cost.

Many critics who doubted the tower were captivated by the magnificent structure. French Prime Minister Tirard was one of them. He even awarded Eiffel the medal 'Legion of Honor'. The tower is now the symbol of France.

On the other hand, not all were convinced. Novelist Guy de Maupassant, who claimed to hate the tower, was said to eat regularly at a restaurant on the tower’s second floor. His reason: It was the only place in Paris where he was sure he wouldn’t see the tower.

Tower Facts

• 300 workers joined together 18,038 pieces of puddled iron (a very pure form of structural iron), using 2.5 million rivets

• Every 7 years, the Eiffel Tower receives a fresh coat of more than 300 tons of reddish-green paint. Why reddish-green? Because, tower officials say, it is the color that clashed least with the blue sky over Paris, and the green landscape of the Champ de Mars below.

• The positions of the Eiffel Tower’s four “feet” correspond to the cardinal points of a compass: they point exactly north, south, west, and east.

• Sad fact: The Eiffel Tower is the most popular landmark for suicides in France.

In an average year, 4 people commit suicide by jumping off the tower or, occasionally, by hanging themselves from its wrought iron beams.

The first person killed in a jump from the tower, in 1911, was not an intentional suicide – the man was an Austrian tailor named Franz Reichelt who had sewn himself a “spring-loaded bat-wing cape” that he thought would enable him to fly. It didn’t.

• Thomas Edison visited the tower on 10 September 1889. He signed the guestbook with the following message —

"To M Eiffel the Engineer the brave builder of so gigantic and original specimen of modern Engineering from one who has the greatest respect and admiration for all Engineers including the Great Engineer the Bon Dieu, Thomas Edison."

• The tower lost the title of the world's tallest structure in 1930 when the Chrysler Building was completed in New York City.

• During German occupation of Paris in 1940, Hitler chose to stay on the ground. It was said that Hitler conquered France, but did not conquer the Eiffel Tower.

• In 1987, A.J. Hackett made one of his first bungee jumps from the top of the Eiffel Tower, using a special cord he had helped develop. Hackett was arrested by the Paris police upon reaching the ground. (LOL!)

• The tower received its 200,000,000th guest on 28 November 2002.

• Since 2004, the Eiffel Tower hosted an ice skating rink on the first floor each winter.

Engraved Names

Gustave Eiffel engraved on the tower 72 names of French scientists, engineers and other notable people. This engraving was painted over at the beginning of the twentieth century but restored in 1986–1987.

In the morning I went for my 30-minute jog, which I'm ever so proud of.

Come afternoon, while waiting for B, I decided to pack some of the stuff at home & found some interesting items!

This is our stash of Reader's Digest.

The most recent ones; 2006 2005.

And then 1999.. I have no idea why there're only 4 copies.

These will be antiques!

The earliest dates back to 1993!

They're passed down from my eldest brother, to second brother, and to me!

Unfortunately it stops there bcus Hao's not an avid reader.

In this mess I found something that jolted me!

I'd bet the guys enjoyed the movie thoroughly but it was terrifying for my weak heart..

Went for a drink at Outdoors but we didn't quite like the ambience.

Cracked our brains for a new location & ended up in Esplanade.

Passed by the this chocolate bar and B insisted on entering.
I was grinning inside, haha!

Went for Aura training at Delta House today, we also carry Body Shimmer & Lip Glosses.

It was delayed by 45mins! Luckily I wasn't too late in meeting Daphne love.

I wanted to have Bento set at NP's Canteen4, but it was closed for renovations!

So we ate at Makan Place instead. Boring~

Raided Queensway with Junjie who came to join us later.

Finally bought my sportswear!

Kinda costly but I see it as an investment bcus I will definitely need them in the long run.

I really miss my poly days spent with Daphne!

Even though NP sucks and PDI sucks but we stuck through all the crap together.
It's literally 'through good times and bad'.
Even after a year of not meeting up we could still carry on where we left.

It's really so heart-warming to know we can still be such good friends.

I'm glad I have Daphne and Geoffrey during my poly days. They're such wonderful people.

Confession

As I cooled myself down after the jog, I asked myself, "You miss running, don't you?"

Truth is, I enjoy running, but I hate the effects that come after.
The sweat, heat rash, face feeling like it's boiling w steam, muscle aches.

I sprinted in the last minute, and it felt amazing! Bcus my body has already warmed up, and my legs just flew like it never did before! Of course it only lasted for a few seconds. But I had to do that, the sprint, for while I was jogging I felt so constricted. My body wanted to fly but my mind has to control the speed. Lol.

Oh, I jogged for 29mins, the last minute was for my personal pleasure.
I'm proud of myself today (:

First jog in 5 years!

Slept late last night, thus I couldn't crawl out of bed at 7.30am.
Shut the alarm off & went back to sleep, haha!
Baby's text woke me up at 9.30am and I went down at 10.

I felt I could faint! It was so much harder than I thought.
It wasn't my leg muscles that were failing me; it was the heart, neck, brain & throat!
Such an unpleasant feeling, which made me realize how weak my body is.
I guess I could be lenient on myself since it's my first jog, right?
Couldn't even jog for 20mins, lol.
The spot which hurt the most, weird enough, was the muscles at the back of my neck.
I have no idea how it links but it's throbbing so hard and it caused giddiness.

Ahhh such a lousy body such an awful experience ):
The bath I took was the most refreshing one I must say.

Headed out w my boys, BabyG & Yuanshan!
Had an awesome brunch at Pek Kio, our favorite XL Prawn Noodles!
Shan left for Ikea & I accompanied B for acupuncture. We met up afterward in Queensway, and headed to Scape!
My first time there, so thrilled to see the flea! Didn't get the chance to shop though, blessing bcus I get to save money lol! Shan & I got our sports shoes from New Balance!

It's been awhile since my babyboy tasted Pastamania, hope you enjoyed it! (:
I tried this new pasta since I was kinda bored of Marinara.

It was uhmm, average.
I like the Aglio Olio part but the chicken wasn't too fantastic. Haha! Not too bad luh good attempt.

This is my first and only sports shoe!! I will love her (:
I still think I look better in stilettos. I insist.

After lunch, I got really drowsy and did something silly.
Mummy texted me saying she has cooked ABC soup. At the same time Esther was asking me if the water is boiling. I wanted to reply mum "Yay okay" but after I sent it I burst into laughter!
I sent "Yay boiling" instead. LOL! I continued laughing for the next 5mins ._." hahaha!
That's what happens when my brain decides to protest.

Ate Milo powder cus my eyelids were tremendously heavy! Then I became hysterical and disturbed everyone and laughed a lot more :X haha!

There! 我妈妈的汤! 好好喝! :D

I shall go bathe and head to bed soon; I plan to get up at 7.30 and run at 8! Heehee.

Random Bubbles.

It's funny how you look back and everything's so different.
I used to blog every single day when I was 14.
My first entry on was on 18th April 2004, and my last entry on that blog was on 4th February 2005.
I don't think anyone will know of that site, except myself and maybe K if she remembers the link.
In that diary were my most heartfelt, unpretentious, carefree thoughts. The young Sheryl.
When I read through it, images formed in my head. Recollections, memories.
I had an outrageous, horrible attitude. To make things worse, I was stubborn like a bull.
But in that blog, I loved a guy all my heart. Yes it was G.
He saw me when I was without masks, my true form.

Things changed and we were separated. Nobody likes changes.
I've resented change for a very long time. As I grow, I began to understand that it's inevitable.
I've come across a phrase that carved an impression in my mind;
"Change what you can, accept what you can't change."
No doubt I miss the carefree past, but I'm happy to be where I am now, and I look forward to achieving more.

Being separated from him allowed me to learn and grow even more.
Although I consider one of my relationships to be a mistake (I never really loved him in the first place), I don't regret it.
Read another phrase in Tumblr which goes something like,
"Don't have regrets, because it was exactly what you wanted at that moment."
Here's an example:
Don't regret taking drugs(if you have), because at that spur moment it was what you wanted.
Not saying you should be proud of it but rather, embrace the mistake and move on.
If I had gone back to G things probably wouldn't have worked out. Lol.

6 years later in 2010, we were back together as young adults and no more juveniles.
I always believed what's meant to be, will be.
But trust me when I say, this relationship was not easy at all.
Through the years everyone who cared about me told me to curb my temper,
I wrote it in my resolutions every year, but I've never got down to it.
This guy, changed me.
It was certainly mentally-demanding for both of us, but hey, look where we are now!
This majestic relationship is something we've nurtured together and it's stronger than ever.
We're more ready than ever for the hardships ahead.

I'm glad God led me to him when I pleaded for Him to guide me to the right guy.
I'm blessed.

May God bless all of you as well.

Afternoon at K's

I'm so behind time; that was last week and K has long blogged about it!
Just had the photos uploaded onto Facebook, so my friends had the privilege to access them first hand!
Hahaha. Oh but don't bother adding me if I don't know you; I don't accept strangers.

Last Thursday, it was an impromptu decision to meet up.
Really last minute, I received her text when I just got up!

Met her at BPP to shop for baking ingredients and settled our lunch.

Back at her house she opened the 'recipe" and all I did was glance.
She did the reading.

Our egg white after beating and adding colourings.
Such a sweet shade of pink! We love it, but after baking they turn into umm, a not-so-nice colour.

I was so amazed by this! It's so cool! And kinda cute you can't deny.

While she was playing I smelt a burnt smell and ...

True enough, burnt.

We still love it!

She left me with my favourite task - adding chocolates.
I think she regrets it cus I hear her screaming "It's too sweet! It's all Sheryl's fault!"

Things have been really weird for me recently. Emotions going haywire. When I needed to feel upset I'm feeling nothing. Nothing at all, and I'm worried cus this is the first time I'm so unusually calm. Perhaps I've adapted to retail line too much; I've become a master in hiding my emotions and I've perfected my fake smiles.
No I am not okay. I lost a family member; to me he's my grandson(cus Almond's my son and Puffy is Almond's son). I don't know why I'm obligated to hide all these, it's draining all my energy away. I haven't even had a good cry and that's bad bcus I always cry to make myself feel better. In fact I could still tease my colleagues and make them laugh when they're feeling down. I don't like bringing personal issues to work and perhaps that's the reason for my masks. In retail your mood cannot be down. I can even cheer Gerald up and motivate him when army's being a bitch.
Does it make me stronger or merely a better liar? I don't know.
I should be honest to myself, but now's not a good time.
Someday G will be there, shoulders ready, I guess that's what I'm waiting for..

Since Gerald is going to be in camp on the actual Vday, we celebrated it yesterday on the 12th.
Even though things didn't go according to plan, it was still perfect (:

Brought his gift to his house.

Him reading my "letter" in the form of colorful cards
& smiling to himself.

We went Clementi for our usual Koi and BattleGear4.
It started pouring when we planned to leave!
Took a cab to town for some window-shopping.
Dinner time! The highlight of our date.

3 times due to my extensive enthusiasm.

His treat. I was engulfed by intense guilt!

I look weird.

Bread & Butter.
I skipped this, he took 3.

The lady mixed the salad in front of us and served it to us.
I like it! I hate mixing salad; they'll just end up all over the table.

Lobster Tail.

Creamed Spinach.

My Tenderloin, cooked to Medium, with Mushroom sauce.
Gerald said it's ok to ask for Medium since it's Prime Rib, wouldn't be too hard.
Medium rare (my normal) will be slightly bloody.
He's right! My steak was perfect.

His Rib Eye, with Black Pepper sauce.
His was Medium rare if I'm not wrong.

Reminder of Guilt.

We were given this, inside are 3 vouchers but we decided to give it to his Dad.
All in all, Lawry's service was more than acceptable(I rated them Excellent).
Both G and I agreed that Morton's service is the best so far; it gives us the warm comfortable feeling.
Maybe Lawry's concept is too open.
One thing for sure, we prefer Lawry's lightings. Morton's too dark, a little brighter would be perfect.

As for the food, we love our steak and the proportion is perfect.
Morton's portions are, as quoted by Gerald, too exaggerating! The other time YuanShan and I only could only finish half of our steak! Haha.
Morton's lobster is better.
I didn't quite like the creamed spinach, it lacks a certain something and it gets quite boring after a while.
I don't know how G feels about that dish though.
For Morton's, I love their Scallop wrapped in Bacon served with Apricot Chutney
and their Jumbo Lump Crabcake.
It's kinda creepy how I managed to memorize their names; guess I've heard too much of G practicing his speech!

Lawry's is good, but Morton's still better. (Based on past experience)
Not sure about now! Haha, been such a long time.

Our initial plan was to head down to Haw Par Villa but it was getting kinda late already so we skipped it.
BattleGear4 and Koi was next in line!

Met Gerald's family & relatives at Vivo to have our dinner at Imperial Herbal Restaurant.
The food were great! Never felt more bloated.

Mini CNY Preparation!

So last night I was home helping my mum out for Chinese New Year, just like every yr.

Gona share the 'tasks' I'm assigned to!

1. Decorate the house!

兔年! (Year of the rabbit)

Couplets are traditional greetings consisting of two sentences of auspicious wordings to convey blessings.

On the left it reads: 恭喜发财 (Gong Xi Fa Cai)

On the right: 吉祥如意 (Ji Xiang Ru Yi)

Upside down 福 meaning "Fortune has arrived"

Mummy wants it to be upright instead since it's on the front door.

Ok I just googled it; pineapple is the symbol of welcome.

Haha!

2. Choose red packets!

Every year I'd be the one selecting which angbao(s) to give to which group of people.

I'm also the one wrapping them so I know who gets how much :P

We have a lot more than these!

Fancy some from Swarovski?

If you don't already know,

you'll get one packet for a purchase of any amount.

Limited to one per customer.

It's ending though. 2nd Feb is the last day!

3. Hang the leek up

The "Leek" in Chinese is called 蒜 (Suan),which sounds like "Calculating"

Thus it symbolizes wealth and the counting of money!

We wrap it with a red packet and red ribbon.

4. Make Rice Wine!

I take pride in this because it's a Hakka tradition!

When I was younger I used to watch my mum make it,

slowly I started helping her with it.

To this date, she entrusts this task to me.

You bet I'm proud of it; making rice wine all by myself! :D

These are "wine biscuits" 酒饼.

Pound them into powder form like the photo below.

Cover it up before it gets blown all over the house!

Cook 0.5Kg of Glutinous rice.

Which explains the tweet about washing the rice and having smooth hands, lol!

It's done!

Clean a pot and fill the bottom with a layer of glutinous rice.

Thin layer will do but I like my foundation to be good so I didn't leave any gaps.

Next, sprinkle the powdered form of rice biscuit on top of the rice.

There should be more than enough so be generous.

Repeat the steps!

Rice, powder, rice, powder.

Pour all remaining powder inside.

I don't know if others do this but it's our usual practice to place a red packet on top of the cover and secure it with a rubber band. For auspicious reasons! (:

My Christmas last year(feels weird to be using this two words when Xmas was only two weeks ago!) was filled with gifts! It was the most number of gifts as compared to the previous years! :D

It was also our first time travelling together and it felt like the greatest moment in our lives!
We got to spend time in a relaxing island, just the both of us. We rode to the next town and to different attractions by map, we tried jet-skying, we ate awesome food (Ye Lin FTW!), we did body massage and scrub, and we chased after and caught an amazing sunset.
Most of all, we were together.

I'm so blessed to have you back into my life, must have done something awesome in the previous life! Lol. I'm truly sorry for the heartaches, anger and annoyance.

where all the collectors (aka members) could get autographs on the crystal pieces.

So we did! It was sooo peaceful! Perhaps I've been leading too hectic a life.

Annual Manicure Session.

After a year apart, I find it hard to believe we still met up for our 'Manicure exchange' session.
I'm sure you guys would know who I'm talking about, but if you don't, it's K. Haha.
Every year we would select a day for our 'Birthday Mani-s" because our birthdays are only 2 days apart!
This year was the 3rd year already, how time flies!
We'd exchange manicures as presents, lol! Silly, but it's our tradition!

This year it was Milly's again(same as last yr).
